Visiting hospital can be scary.
At University Hospital Southampton, I produce accessible information resources to help patients understand their condition and treatment. My aim is to empower patients with the knowledge they need, so that they feel a little less overwhelmed.
The resources I produce include leaflets, booklets and posters, given out across the hospital and available to download online.
I work with expert doctors and nurses from all over the hospital and help them to translate their clinical information into plain English. It’s so rewarding to take a complicated subject, and distill it into simple, everyday language, so that anyone can understand it.
As part of this role, I also collaborate with professional designers to turn the information into top quality resources for the general public. It’s essential to keep the tone of voice and appearance within the iconic NHS guidelines and produce a professional finish.
